RISKS FROM ANAESTHESIA Reducing your risks If you are as fit as possible before your surgery your heart and lungs will work better. Giving up smoking has been shown to improve your outcome. Try not to smoke on the day of surgery but the earlier you can stop the better it will be for your lungs and blood. Be aware of all medications you are taking. Some herbal remedies can thin your blood. If in doubt stop all non-prescribed/herbal medication two weeks before surgery. Be honest about the amount of alcohol and recreational drugs you may use as these can affect the way anaesthetics work. |
